How did you get started riding and at what age?

At age 11, a gentleman at a junior rodeo needed bareback riders. He asked me to ride a bareback horse and I told him I wanted to ride bulls. He said if I would enter the bareback he would get me in the bull riding.

How did the first night work out?

The bareback riding lasted longer than the bull riding.

Even though your career was shorten by injury, it was still very successful, what was your proudest moment?

Winning the PRCA World Championship in 1995

What made you so successful?

I loved what I did for a living.

The rankest bull you ever gotten on?

Gunslinger or Bodacious

Did you ever cover Bodacious?

No, I got on him 4 times, the last time he jerked the rope out of my hand at 6.8 seconds.

What is the most memorable ride of your career?

Riding Playboy in Del Rio, TX

Was that the same ride that was on 8 seconds and how many points?

Yes, they called out 97points, but I think it was actually about 93pts,

What rider did you look up to throughout your career and why?

There was so many, it is hard to pick just one.  I tried to find the best in everybody and study on it.

What is the difference between the riders of the 80’s and 90’s versus the riders of today?

I think there were more cowboys than there are today.  The sport has evolved to where there are more city folks involved.

For the young riders coming up in the game, what is the main thing that can make them winners?

Never quit.

You were one of the original 20 that started the PBR with a $1,000, what is the story behind the beginning?

We were just tired of hanging our necks out and not getting paid what we deserved, so we put the ball in our on hands and went with it.

It has become a $250 million dollar industry, did you every think it would turn out like this?

Well, we dreamed of it and hoped it would come true one day.

Bull Riding is still a huge part of you life, you have just turned you focus to the livestock end of the business.  Tell us what you are up to these days?

We (my wife and I) put on PBR events and haul bulls to other PBR events.

In 2008 you sent 2 bulls to the Ardmore, OK Classic, what bulls and how much did they win?

We sent 691 Super Freak and 601 Off the Hook, that day they won about $108,000.

Where are these bulls today and how soon will we see the bulls at the BFTS?

They are at the ranch and you will see them some next year.

How do you start your bucking bulls?

We start them around 14 months with a light weight dummy.

Do you have a favorite blood line?

I am high on the old Oscar breeding and the Plumber genetics.

You and Tiffany produce your own PBR events, how many do you do a year?

We produce 9 PBR events.

You even have an event at your house, tell us about it?

We have produced the event since 1988 at the house and the last 11 have all been PBR events.

What are the dates?

August 21 & 22, 2009

Did you play any other sports in school?

I played all the sports but soccer.  Wrestling, football, baseball, basketball and boxing.

What’s your favorite meal?

Steak and potatoes

If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would it be?

Wyatt Earp

When you’re not busy, what do you like to do in your spare time?

Catfish jugging and deer hunting
